Movie Haiku:Well-intentioned but flawed film about Harlem ghetto life circa 1986. Daniels took delicate book & pumped it full of ugliness. Does that make it more powerful? Jan (who read Sapphire's novel after seeing film) desn't think the crucial fantasy sequences "ring true," & we're both totally baffled by all the hype.
