Movie Haiku:Edith Wharton's heroine (Anderson) is trapped: raised in luxury in turn of the century New York, she is too independent of mind & spirit to marry just for money, but she has no financial safety net. Minor mistakes in judgment have monsterous consequences, & slowly but surely, she exhausts her options.
