Movie Haiku:One of those big "Hollywood epics" on wide-screen, made special by McQueen's uncharacteristically warm performance as a Navy gunboat engine mechanic. He's especially moving in his scenes with his Chinese trainee Po-han (Mako). His love of machines is palpable. Oscar noticed -- "Jake" was the sole nomination of McQueen's career.
