Movie Haiku:Time: the Middle Ages. Place: plague-ravaged Europe. A knight returning home from the Crusades encounters the cloaked figure of Death waiting for him on the shore. The archtypal imagery of this film has made it the butt of a million art house jokes, however director Bergman is completely in earnest.
