Movie Haiku:Part One of Berri's adaptation of Marcel Pagnol's great novel about life in the French countryside. An outsider from the city (Gerard Depardieu) inherits valuable land in Provence, but a local farmer (Montand) schemes against him. One of Depardieu's greatest performances, even though Auteuil walked off with Cesar (the French Oscar).
